"Do You See What I
See?"------"The child, the child shivers in the cold."

Dyebat has found herself buried under 400 pounds of yarn therefore has sought a resourceful outlet to dig her way out. She has decided to drive the bus to Africa! The Susahumor forum is honoring Susan Boyle by making and sending 8” knitted or crocheted squares to the Kas or Square Circle organization which assembles blankets and gives them to orphaned children with Aids in Africa. http://square-circle-forum.ning.com/forum/topics/february-april-2011-challenge

The goal is to fill one bus with 1,225 squares by the end of April that will make 35 blankets for kids.

There are other organizations for which items can be hand crafted if you choose to support locally instead.

Project Linus : http://projectlinus.org/

Afghans for Afghans: http://www.afghansforafghans.org/

Carewear http://carewear.org/ preemie infants to local U.S. hospitals

Blankets for Canada: http://www.blankets4canada.ca/

The goal of this forum is to honor Susan by warming children in need, therefore we invite anyone and all Susan communities to contribute.

For those of you who wish to join the effort but have two left thumbs, no thumbs, or consider yourself or others to be in severe danger when you are confronted with knitting needles and crochet hooks you are encouraged to pass the word along, contact friends and family who are less dangerous and more skilled to help out or go to the websites and donate.

The Blankets for Canada site and probably others accepts any size of square if you find yourself having problems making 8” squares don’t rip them apart and start over, send them to Canada!

Dyebat is generously offering to ship some of her 400 pounds of yarn to anyone who can use it for this cause. If you need yarn, either wool or acrylic, please contact dyebat at maryjo@brella.com Also as we are trying to fill a bus, if you are participating in the Square Circle/KAS project please email dyebat with the number of squares you have sent so a count can be kept. This will be posted on the Duende forum too: http://duende.forumotion.com/ in the guest section so if you have questions please leave them there.

Winter in Africa is coming soon and keeping warm is a major issue to these children especially at night when the desert gets so cold.

“The child, the child
Sleeping in the night”

I found this picture on a link from the Blankets4Canada site. As you can see it as been made from "squares" of different sizes. I am sure most agencies receive squares of all shapes and sizes and the manage to put them together to make the blankets. The people who sew or crochet the squares together have quite a challenge. So, anyone who is knitting and the "square" is not perfect, don't worry, I am certain all donations are thankfully received.

Send squares, perfect or not, to the agency of your choice.

Update:

Dyebat has had two takers for yarn! We have a handful of known knitters from two sites and packages are being prepared for shipment. There has been some discussion as to the best manner of shipment. Tyvek 12”x16” envelopes (those thin plastic ones without bubble wrap inside) are the best. It has also been suggested that the squares be placed in zip-lock bags with the air squeezed out to make more room in the envelope. Envelopes are easier to get through customs in Africa than boxes. The KAS site suggests nothing over 4 lbs. Here is the link to the site again http://square-circle-forum.ning.com/forum/topics/february-april-2011-challenge If you have questions please contact me via the Duende forum at http://duende.forumotion.com/
