The Time Poll for the 100 Most Influential People is on now. Voting, bordering on the psychotic is occurring now at the OS and SBFII! Complaints are that the nun, Cheng Yen is gaining on Susan. Never mind whatever amount of good that Cheng Yen is accomplishing! Perhaps it is time for ALL of you at those sites to think about what Susan might think of your ridiculous enterprise! Personally I find it a very sad commentary when entertainers are chosen as the most influential person of the year. It makes me believe that bateria in many cases are the only culture some people have. Charlie Sheem must be there somewhere in the top 20.

I have expressed my opinion on the OS.....I am greatly saddened and truly dismayed at the attitude that some of Susan's fans seem to have. I have the feeling that Susan would not be pleased at what is going on, either. Someone on the OS in a response to my post commented that they were voting because "Susan is the most influential person in the world."

I'm sorry, but that statement totally stunned me and after reading it I just sat here at the computer, absolutely dumbfounded.

With ignorant fans like that, Susan sure doesn't need enemies, does she? The behavior of her own fans can have an adverse effect on her reputation faster than anything she herself might do.

As for this TIME poll, it seems to be more of a popularity contest than any serious poll. When entertainers are in the top slots or fans of entertainers are voting-voting-voting-voting hour after hour to get their person into a top slot, something is really wrong.

So who is this "Rain" person, anyway? Can't be all THAT influential if I haven't heard of him or her......

I can understand being an ardent and supportive Susan fan. I think I'm one. But to assume that Susan is the most influential person in the world is nothing short of absurd! Influential is neither positive nor negative, so an influential person could be either one. Much as I admire her and all she's accomplished, Susan Boyle is not the most influential person in the world. I would be hard-pressed to decide just who IS, to be perfectly honest. The very idea that an entertainer called "Rain" holds the top spot in this survey says a lot about the survey. And it obviously is tainted by supporters of their favorite candidate repeatedly voting and voting. All the final tally really proves is who has the most people willing to spend their free time duplicate voting,----and it has nothing at all to do with who is the world's most influential person. What a silly exercise. Susan would have something to say about the "ee-jit" voters, I'm sure!

That seems to be very true. There was a statistic cited at the time, that more people voted in the finale of American Idol than voted in the US Presidential election in 2008. Never underestimate the intelligence of the general public.

Didn't Susan say in her book that she came 7th last year. Her comment was that she was amused and she determined that some of her "most ardent fans voted fast and often". She isn't fooled by these things.

The real fault here lies not with the fans but with TIME for setting up an online poll whose results are unscientific, then trumpeting those results as if they were valid.

Cheng Yen is a Buddhist nun who has done remarkable things for people in her country (China) and around the world. Last I heard she was in 4th place and that the EWers were trying to keep ahead of her so she wouldn't overtake Susan's third-place slot. Susan in competition with a nun?! I think she would say, "why isn't the nun in first place?"
