I've heard that the execs at the record company have asked the old dears what they think Susan should sing on her next CD. Given that they probably last bought a record in about 1950, I think they're the last people they should have asked! Anyway, I think we at SusaHumor should offer up some suggestions. I know the execs won't read this because SBFII have most likely told them we're worse than toxic waste or something, but here we go anyway!
First up, a particular favourite of mine that I think would suit Susan very well:

And something a little more upbeat, but still within her vocal range. But please, no choirs!

And how about something from a fellow Scot?

I'd love to hear Susan's take on this one.

That's one I'd really like too--either the Judy Collins one or her own contemporary version.

This is more traditional, but upbeat at least! Right within her vocal range too!

If she does covers, almost anything by Ella Fitzgerald would be fine. And some new songs written just for her! Actually some of the complaints about slowness are due to the accompaniment rather than her singing. Pick up the pace in the background music, and she'll sound much more upbeat. Listen to some of the new album by Mumford and Sons. The lyrics are rather slow and dismal, but that wild banjo/guitar accompaniment are what gives it so much punch. We need to talk to Steve Mac!

Well I definately like the style of Adele. The beat and her vocals are awesome. If you listen she changes tempo through the song. I also like how Adele's voice is showcased and not drown out by choirs or other musical instruments.

Or maybe this, with or without a choir (as long as the choir didn't drown her out, of course!).

Not an obvious choice, but I think Susan could do justice to one of my favourite Disney songs.

Last song suggestion from me for the time being, I promise! One for Susan's American fans.

Listen Up Sony. How about at least a FEW upbeat and cheerful songs on the next CD? Songs that Susan can smile and light up with as she sings. Times she does this it adds an even more beautiful dimension to her extraordinary voice. Susan's an ebullient personality full of fun and joie d'vivre, yet so far this side of her personality seems to have been suppressed by the song choices.

Sort of like this!
You got that right. Susan can sing any type music as she has the vocal abilities to do just that. UPBEAT...... is the word. That is exactly what the next CD needs. Susan fans want to hear her SWING and ROCK.

I hereby declare that if the next album is mostly covers I shall not be buying it!

HER OWN SONGS!
To tell us what Susan is really about- perhaps with the help of a good song/music writer if necessary.

A nice obscure one, oozing cheese but anything is better than choirs and whispering into the microphone!
Or, even better, the original movie version which is far more dramatic:

I didn't find that movie version, but remembered the film, so good and true...

It's from the 1984 Giorgio Moroder colourised/scored version which is long out-of-print and unlikely to see a formal DVD release.

Another vote for ORIGINAL SONGS!!!--though a few covers are O.K. by me, too, as long as they are NOT dirge-like tempos drowned in choirs and sung in a whisper hovering on the edge of laryngitis.
Jazz, pop, show tunes, power ballads, torch songs--any genre Susan can sing and make shine.
Give us the POWER of Susan's voice! And, give us the POWER of Susan's personality!
We want Susan's HUMOR and SASS and VITALITY and ENERGY and SPARKLE and WIT. We want an energetic Susan singing in the full strength of her voice, whether at a pianissimo or a fortissimo dynamic. We want Susan's PERSONALITY to shine through.
And get her out of those damnable diaphragm-constricting straitjacket matronly dresses that she had to wear for so many appearances on TV and stage in these first couple of years. What she wore at the Scottish Variety Awards was beautiful, and looked comfortable. We are also fond of purple, of course. Even the 80s big-shirt-over-leggings in the comedy duet with Peter Kay was a vast improvement over those horrible tight dresses.
And for the love of all that is holy, please CEASE and DESIST from even the least hint of trying to mold her into some sanitized airbrushed Church Lady stereotype. Yes, Susan is a Person of Faith. Millions of people are Persons of Faith, and they still have their own unique personalities. Elton John is a Person of Faith, but he didn't build his career on singing the Book of Common Prayer.
Actually, one item on my personal wish list would be for Susan and Elton to do a duet together, or even several songs, on stage, in all their energetic vibrant glory!
FREE SUSAN!!!!

I just posted at OS as a suggestion for Susan to do a duet with Elton. This is on the thread of what do you want for the next CD... if they don't do it for the CD they could consider a single. I also said I hope Susan't management team would look into this as it could be a really great thing.
